The donation is a result of early engagements with the Ministry of Health, prior to the first confirmed COVID-19 case in Mozambique. Similar efforts are being carried out globally, in support of impacted communities where ExxonMobil operates.
“We intend to be part of the response to this crisis, supporting our host communities during this time of need,” said Jos Evens, general manager for ExxonMobil Moçambique, Limitada. “We are grateful for the efforts of the first responders and medical professionals who are working to manage the effects of this pandemic.”
In coordination with the government, ExxonMobil also sponsored the creation of an animated public service announcement (PSA) demonstrating techniques to stem the spread of COVID-19. The animated PSA features Tina, a strong and encouraging young Mozambican girl, who fights against the pandemic by raising awareness and highlighting prevention techniques, including social distancing and proper handwashing. FX Lda created the PSA, which will be broadcast on TVM beginning the week of Apr. 20.
“We are grateful for the support from ExxonMobil,” said National Public Health Director Dr. Rosa Marlene. “The supplies will have an immediate impact, protecting our health care workers against the spread of this virus.”
