Area 4 Invests in Education in Cabo Delgado

• More than 800 students in Palma District to benefit from enhancement of Namdimba Primary School facilities in Palma District
• 260 Scholarships awarded to University, TVET and Secondary school students in Cabo Delgado

In partnership with ADPP, and in direct coordination with the Infrastructure and Planning District Services in Palma, Rovuma LNG constructed a block composed of classrooms, an administrative office and install a lavatory and sanitation facilities at the Namdimba Primary School. Additional sanitation facilities will be built at the Ncumbe and Bagala Primary Schools. The scope of this program also includes an adult literacy and numeracy program; training of TRIOS (school directors, teachers, and village leaders), and a community awareness campaign to increase students’ attendance rates.

The Namdimba Primary School project was inaugurated by Cabo Delgado Governor Dr. Valige Taubo, and ExxonMobil Mozambique General Manager, Arne Gibbs, on behalf of the Area 4 partnership and Rovuma LNG. The donation also included school materials to support the students with the start of the academic.

Similarly, as part of Area 4’s continued support to education initiatives in Cabo Delgado province, ExxonMobil has partnered with the NGO, Tsemba Life, to award 270 scholarships targeting students in secondary, university education, as well as in technical and vocational training courses (TVET). The TVET centers in Chiure, Balama and Montepuez will receive 50 of these scholarships.

These are investments that are key to catalyzing continued social equity in rural communities, and strengthening a foundation that will allow for sustainable development in Cabo Delgado,” said Arne Gibbs, General Manager for ExxonMobil Moçambique, Limitada. “With these initiatives, the Area 4 partners work with our government partners to ensure that the youth of Cabo Delgado are increasingly competitive in the emerging employment marketplace.”

“The Provincial Government of Cabo Delgado commends the continued work that ExxonMobil and the Area 4 partners are doing in support of the youth of Cabo Delgado and specifically, those of Palma. Education is an investment in the future of our province, and the future prosperity and progress of Mozambique,” said Governor of Cabo Delgado Valige Tauabo.

Area 4 is operated by Mozambique Rovuma Venture S.p.A. (MRV), a joint venture owned by ExxonMobil, Eni and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), which holds a 70 percent interest in the Area 4 Exploration and Production Concession Contract; in addition to MRV, Galp, KOGAS and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos, E. P. Each holds a 10 percent interest in Area 4.
